JOB DESCRIPTION :

 

Position Summary

Our Part-Time Market Manager will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and management of one or several of DMM’s markets or special events. This role will oversee day-of operations and execute the responsibilities to lead staff, support activation, programming, and market events. This role will require website, social media, and email copy review, as well as financial reporting, logistical coordination, weekend availability, and professional communication skills.

 

Work Environment & Operations

The position operates at the market sites, without a central office and virtually in between market days. Our programs operate in various satellite locations throughout Washington D.C. The position requires travel to manage events, site visits, staff meetings, and up to 20% virtual engagement. Expense reimbursements are available with appropriate documentation. Company communication is executed mostly through email and teleconference. This part-time position may require up to 20 hours/week, including occasional evening and weekend availability.

Duties & Deliverables

The Part-Time Market Manager performs a wide range of duties including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Fulfill duties as on-site manager to ensure policies and procedures are followed and enforced for exhibitors and employees. Address shortfalls professionally and document communication with necessary parties.
  • Manage weekly logistical responsibilities for market team and establish clear and consistent communication channels.
  • Manage process for market set up, vendor arrival, collections, traffic control, break down--communicating set-up requirements, signage and layout with Director for approval in advance. Ensure all equipment is in place for market.
  • Provide a memorable customer experience through a proactive and positive approach to our service culture and brand.
  • Report all payments, attendance, activations, and other market related activities with our Managing Director and Financial Director at each market end or within 24 hours.
  • Communicate with Director on market event highlighting any incidents, follow-up items, customer complaints or exhibitor issues.
  • Assist with coordination of programming, activity or food or beverage contracting, or performances, as needed throughout the market.
  • Ensure all employees and vendors adhere to Market’s Operating Guidelines and address concerns with owners & managers of that business.
  • Remain accessible and resourceful to market team, Directors, and participants, addressing any concerns, questions and complaints in a professional manner.
  • Supervise security, janitorial, and support staff at all times
  • Manage and support Director with recruitment, application process and potential exhibitor response.
  • Respond to all emails & phone inquiries for potential exhibitors and business leads and track viable leads for Director.

General

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Docs, Design Software. Graphic design, strategy, copywriting/proofing.

 

Works with other leaders in the organization to provide consistent external messaging for various audiences and demographics.

 

Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements
Knowledge, skills, and abilities

Access to computer and telephone to accommodate daily business correspondence.

 

Bachelor’s Degree and at least 2 years of experience in related field

 

At least 2 years of experience in full-service, high-end hospitality or event production environment as a Manager or Assistant Manager for reputable hospitality/event organization.

 

Demonstrated success in coaching employees and setting a positive and fun work environment.

 

Demonstrated success in executing logistical details, to include best practices, customer and employee needs and short and long term strategic plans.

 

Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision due to the virtual and site specific operations of the organization.

 

Superior communication skills, both written and oral.

 

Possess a passion for public space and markets


Proficiency in the use of computers for:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Graphic Design Skills using Design Software (Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, etc)
  • Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Calendar & Meet)
  • Zoom, StreamYard
  • Web Browsers such as Google Chrome & Safari
  • Event Management Websites (Ticketing, Virtual Venues, Software Tools)
